What are Botox® and filler injections?

Botox is a popular injectable treatment that temporarily reduces the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. It’s formulated from a neurotoxin and works by preventing treated muscles from moving through their full range of motion.

With just a few painless injections, Botox can smooth lines, folds, and wrinkles around and between your eyes and across your forehead. You can still make normal facial expressions, but your muscles won’t be able to tug and pull your skin into wrinkles.

Getting Botox only takes a few moments, and you can return to normal activities immediately after your visit. Results develop in 24-48 hours and last for around four months. Once you begin to see your lines and folds slowly return, you can decide whether to come in for another round of treatments.

Filler injections differ from Botox in that they administer material into the skin, rather than alter the function of targeted muscle tissue.

What are dermal fillers?

In youth, a thick layer of collagen sits just beneath the surface of your skin, giving you the rounded contouring often referred to as a “baby face.” Over the years, much of that collagen wears away, leaving your skin to sag and pool into lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Dermal fillers work to replace some of that lost volume or enhance volume in areas of your face you’d like to emphasize. There are many different dermal fillers to choose from, each formulated for use in specific areas of your face.

Fillers can provide a plumping effect that lasts for many months, and some fillers last a year or longer. Even better, research shows that dermal fillers prompt your body to produce its own collagen, which can extend results even longer.

How do Botox and filler injections create a liquid facelift?

A liquid facelift is a term used to describe a combination of injectable facial treatments, most commonly Botox and dermal fillers. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, a liquid facelift can help you look more youthful and well-rested.

In order to achieve optimal outcomes, the first step in a liquid facelift is assessing your bone structure and facial features. This allows the practitioner to create a plan for which injectables to use in specific areas of your face, and at what volume.

If you’re hoping for a refreshed and renewed facial appearance but want to avoid the risks and recovery time of plastic surgery, a liquid facelift might be a great option.
